Projects:
Solar Infrastructure and
Water Treatment Plant

LMI Holdings secured a $30 million loan from the IFC to support the development of solar infrastructure and a water treatment plant to serve industries.

The solar plant developed within the Tema Free Zones Enclave provides power to businesses operating within the Tema Free Zones Enclave.

The first phase of the Dawa Water Project – construction of a 11,000 cubic meters per day water supply system aims to serve industrial tenants within the Dawa Industrial Zone in Dawa. This project will source water from the lower Volta River using a conventional treatment method.

The system includes an 18.8 km of DN630 PN16 HDPE raw water pipeline and approximately 8km DN450 PN16 HDPE treated water pipeline to the Dawa Industrial Zone. With an initial installed capacity of 11,000 m³/day in Phase One, expanding to 45,000 m³/day in Phase Two, this expansion ensures a reliable and sustainable water supply for industries within the Dawa Industrial Zone, creating an enabling environment for industrial operations and growth.

Rooftop Solar PV Project – Tema Free Zones Enclave

The rooftop solar photovoltaic project within the Tema Free Zones Enclave is a landmark development in Ghana’s industrial renewable energy sector. As Africa’s largest single-site rooftop solar installation, the Helios Solar Project has a total installed capacity of 16.82 MWp and an annual generation capacity of approximately 24.75 GWh of clean energy. Through Enclave Power Company (EPC), LMI Utilities serves as the sole off-taker of the power generated by the facility, delivering reliable renewable electricity to businesses operating within the enclave. This arrangement enhances operational efficiency, reduces dependence on conventional grid-supplied power, and helps lower energy costs for industrial tenants. Beyond its commercial value, the project contributes significantly to Ghana’s sustainability agenda by reducing carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 13,000 tonnes annually. LMI Utilities’ role as the sole off-taker underscores its commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions that strengthen industrial productivity, support business growth, and accelerate Ghana’s transition to a cleaner energy future.

Dawa Substation Project – Dawa Industrial Park

The Dawa Substation marks a strategic expansion of EPC’s power distribution footprint and plays a pivotal role in powering the Dawa Industrial Park. Commissioned in 2018, the substation was developed as the first phase of a planned 393 MVA facility, with an initial installed capacity of 132 MVA. Uniquely, the substation was constructed by breaking into the 330kV West African Power Pool (WAPP) transmission line, a key regional energy corridor linking Côte d’Ivoire to Nigeria. This strategic grid connection enables access to a diversified and highly secure power supply for industrial customers. By anchoring power infrastructure directly within the industrial zone, the Dawa Substation ensures long-term energy reliability, scalability, and operational continuity, while maintaining EPC’s guaranteed availability levels of approximately 99%.

Tema Substation Project – Enclave Power Company

The Tema Substation is a critical piece of privately owned power infrastructure supporting industrial activity within the Tema Free Zones Enclave. Owned and operated by Enclave Power Company (EPC), the substation is connected to the national grid via GRIDCo’s 161kV transmission network and steps down power to 34.5kV, 11.5kV, and 0.415kV for industrial distribution. With a combined capacity of 165 MVA, the facility delivers reliable and stable electricity to over 100 industrial customers, including multinational manufacturers and heavy industries with high energy demand. Since commissioning, the Tema Substation has consistently achieved an uptime of approximately 99.5%, positioning EPC as a benchmark for reliability in Ghana’s power distribution sector.

Ongoing Projects

Dawa Water Treatment & Distribution Project

The first phase of the Dawa Water Project delivers 4,000 m³/day of treated water sourced from the Lower Volta River using conventional treatment methods. The system includes 18.8 km of DN630 PN16 HDPE raw water pipelines and 8 km of DN450 PN16 HDPE treated water pipelines, supplying tenants within the Dawa Industrial Zone.
